Confession :: Not a Fan of Flying! Next week I will be flying out for the PBS Kids annual meeting in Miami, Florida as part of their PBS Kids VIP Ambassador Program.  Recently, they asked me if I would like to become a member of this group and as many of you know, I love PBS Kids!  Their programs are rich with great characters and quite educational such as Word Girl (love her sidekick monkey Captain Huggyface) and Wild Kratts: Creature Power. So off I go to Miami (minus a pink bikini - yes, I have an image of Miami in my head) to spend … [Read more...]

Musings :: Humor is Good for the Soul

Yes, a group of characters here!

Laughter is Good for the Soul! My husband and I met way back when in high school.  We were just friends all through high school, into college (he even came up for a sorority dance) and stayed in contact while I lived and worked in Japan.  One thing that has stayed constant is his ability to make me laugh.  Not just a polite laugh or giggle, but more along the lines of slapping my knees and maybe even an occasional snort gets thrown out there.  To this day, my mother, husband and daughter can all get me … [Read more...]

Searching for Sea Glass on Prince Edward Island

Located on Canada’s east coast, Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) boasts stunning beaches, pastoral landscapes with lush rolling hills, cozy towns, and exquisite seafood restaurants. Author Lucy Maud Montgomery put the Island on the proverbial world map when she made the Island the setting of her classic novel Anne of Green Gables.   Our Family Connection to the Island: My husband was born on the Island so we have done the P.E.I. road trip a few times now. This past summer, despite the worst vacation weather experienced to date, … [Read more...]

Travel: Tips on How to Travel with Kids

Photo.airplane.3441582826_d4f5b79d41_z

We have done our fair share of flying with little people, and I don’t mean the plastic variety. The first flight I took with my now 11 year-old was from Los Angeles to Seattle when she was about 3 months. The most recent flight was this past December when we summoned up the courage to take our three to Australia with the youngest just having turned four. The first thing people asked about the trip was "How was the flight?", and I could honestly answer that although long, it wasn't that bad. But that's also because … [Read more...]

In the Spotlight with The Kratt Brothers

Wild Kratts_Bros_LannerFalcon

Christopher F. "Chris" Kratt and his older brother Martin Kratt  grew up in Warren Township, New Jersey.  Together they host  the television programs Kratts' Creatures, Zoboomafoo, and Be the Creature (which airs on the National Geographic Channel), and Wild Kratts (which airs on PBS Kids and TVOKids).  I had a chance to speak to these energetic brothers who have a real passion for educating kids about wild and sea life. My daughter is quite obsessed with their new show Wild Kratts and had a question of her own to ask the brothers. You … [Read more...]

Photo.GreatWolf.3968196953_8755ae528d_z

The Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls, Ontario: We recently surprised the kids with a two-night stay at Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls, Ontario. This indoor water park boasts over 100,000 square feet of water-packed fun, including scream-worthy slides for risk takers—not for the faint of heart!—and zero-depth entry areas for wee ones. Outside the water park, there are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy until nightfall. Our visit to this immense 84-degree indoor water park was the second for us in five years. I was a … [Read more...]

A Dream Vacation to Scotland

Edinburgh Castle

I can lose myself for hours simply researching different civilizations and the ways of life of our ancestors. I am particularly in love with Scottish history. There is so much rich history in the land. From ancient battles, wars with England, battles with Vikings, clan feuds….Not to mention the amazing stories of the people who lived through it all. We all hear about William Wallace (Braveheart), but there are … [Read more...]

Charles M. Schultz Museum & Research Center

PeanutsMuseum.main-entrance-01

Charlie Brown and his friends have warmed the hearts of generations of children and adults.  Charles Schultz was a genius at finding humor in the trials and tribulations we call life!  I think that is part of the appeal of the Peanuts is their ability to make us laugh at life.  I have been a big fan of Charles Schulz's work and when I was a kid, my stuffed Snoopy went everywhere I went.  Charlie Brown Christmas is one of my favorite holiday shows to watch with my daughter and it warms my heart everytime I see the crew dancing around … [Read more...]

Salt Lake City For The Holidays

SLC1

I love to travel and see the world, but I have found some wonderful things to do and see right in my own back yard. Utah has been my home for many years now, and even though I have moved away a few times, I always seem to find my way back. Salt Lake City has something to offer everyone.  It's a beautiful city that sits right up against the Rocky Mountains, offering fun dining, shopping areas, dance, music and theater, museums, indoor and outdoor sports, and of course, the great outdoors. If you love being outside, then this is an … [Read more...]
